The Power of Belief

Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:

Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.

William Hutchison Murray

The full extent of the magical power of belief is often under estimated and even belittled and ridiculed. Those holding the most lofty aspirations and noble ideals are seen by many as little more than misguided dreamers. That such strong faith in themselves and others could only spring forth from the most naive and childlike of minds.

The jaded, passing themselves off for wise, scoff at such grand plans, seeing them as the conceited folly of fools. With gleeful and mocking smile such wise men, will joyfully point to all those before you that have failed, they will stack the odds against you and demand that the bars of their cage are the full limits of possibility. These dream crushers for all their odds and reason, forget one undeniable truth, that the world of men has always been shaped by so called, misguided dreamers and those to stupid to accept the overwhelming odds stacked against them.

What you believe shapes your reality! Now, I don’t mean in some fanciful way, that if you just focus enough you can walk through walls, although with enough determination you can go through them, albeit bloody and bruised when you do.

Belief, that is true belief is all consuming. The truly great among men burn with the fury of impossible dreams. They see beyond the boundaries of what others deem attainable, or even logical. They pit their will against that of all doubters, even if it be the whole world. Boldly they bring forth their vision, and like the child who dances as if nobody is looking whilst imaging the whole world as their audience, they beautifully dance their dance, in spite of all the worlds doubting.

The great do not bend, they do not yield to the dream of another. The world either moves with them or they break upon it, but in either event, they maintain the divine dream, and stay true to themselves come what may.

The beliefs you hold set the boundaries of your world, the limits of your mind express themselves as limits to your reality. Life is to short to live within the confines of your doubters. Do not mistake their illusions as your limitation, their cage as your world. Dance your dance, like the child, dream and dream big, believe and move with the full force of your being, and maybe the world will dance with you.
