Glyphosate use by year

The Good News – There is a Safe Way to Remove Glyphosate from the Body

Health Impact News

The collaboration between Dr. Stephanie Seneff, PhD, of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology [19], and the well-known researcher Kerri Rivera [20] whose work has helped more than 550 autistic children recover normal lives, has revealed a powerful solution that anyone can use to free themselves from glyphosate contamination. [7, 8]

It is Nearly Impossible to Totally Avoid Glyphosate

Even if we try to be extra careful, we are all exposed to glyphosate every day. This toxic agricultural poison is in 80% of food. It is in many sources of water and it can even be in the air we breathe. [1, 2]

Glyphosate is also in organic food. Even though organic food growers are not allowed to use glyphosate, it is still found in organic food. It gets into organic food through aerial spray drift, dust carried in the wind from farm to farm, rain and agricultural runoff from adjacent farms. [1, 2]

Sometimes the levels of glyphosate in organic food are nearly as high as non-organic food. [3]

The Glyphosate Menace

I previously reported on the toxicity of glyphosate and noted that it is linked to 32 modern diseases. [4]

See my previous articles for additional information about the glyphosate menace:

The Glyphosate Problem is an Immense Concern

In 2014, the total amount of glyphosate used in the United States was 276 million pounds or 0.87 lbs. per person. [5]

That’s almost one pound of poison per person per year. [6]

We have a limited ability to remove or destroy glyphosate once it enters our bodies. As a result, glyphosate tends to accumulate over time. [7]

Autism is one of many modern illnesses that has been linked to glyphosate toxicity. [4] It is an extreme example of what glyphosate can do to children.

Glyphosate is also linked with Alzheimer’s, which is another extreme form of modern illness that plagues older Americans. [4]

Autism and Alzheimer’s are commonly associated with digestive problems and constipation. [14]

Constipation has now become an extremely common symptom of illness. It is much more than an annoyance – it can be an indicator of glyphosate toxicity. [7, 8]

A Healthy Gut goes Hand-in-Hand with overall Good Health

If our digestive system (gut) is damaged and dysfunctional, then we will be unhealthy. We will have poor physical health, impaired mental function, unpredictable emotional functioning, and have abnormal behavior patterns. [9]

Just think about the last time you had a bad case of indigestion, stomach flu, food poisoning, bowel cramps, diarrhea, or prolonged constipation. How well were you able to cope with normal responsibilities of life when you had any of those symptoms?

Were you relaxed and able to do hard physical work or aerobic exercise? Was your mind clear and eager to engage in complex problem solving? Were you emotionally stable? Were you patient and ready to be helpful to others?

When the gut is out of order the rest of life is out of order. If the gut is chronically out of order, then the rest of life will be chronically out of order.

Constipation is one of the Most Common Gut Related Problems for Children and Adults

I will be focusing on constipation in this article, because it provides a powerful context for demonstrating how glyphosate damages digestion and how the destruction of glyphosate in the body can lead to healing.

Constipation is a very serious condition, because the body cannot obtain the nutrition it needs from the food that is eaten, and it cannot quickly or properly expel toxins that accumulate in the large intestine.

Chronic constipation can affect the entire health of the body especially when the gut becomes damaged to the point where undigested food passes into the blood stream and causes havoc in the immune system. [9]

Chronic constipation affects 2% to 27% of the population. [10] Most researchers estimate chronic constipation to be 12% to 19%. [11] The percentages vary widely depending on the criteria used to measure and report constipation. [12]

The health care costs of constipation are significant as evidenced by the hundreds of million dollars spent yearly on laxatives alone. [10] And the hundreds of thousands of doctor visits devoted to addressing the problem.

For children, constipation rates can be as high as 30%. [13]

For children with autism, constipation is between 90% and 100%. [7]

Normal Patterns of Bowel Activity

Dr. Joseph Mercola stated:

Three bowel movements per day to three per week is considered the normal range. What’s more important than frequency is the ease with which you move your bowels. If you need to push or strain, something is off – moving your bowels should take no more effort than urinating or passing gas. [18]

Chronic Constipation

A person with chronic constipation may only have one or two bowel movements per week. There can be considerable abdominal discomfort and pain, which affects our emotional life and the ability to work and learn. Sometimes stools are hard and painful to pass, but in other situations, such as with autistic children, there is simply no urgency or ability to pass a stool even though it is soft.

Dr. Stephanie Seneff described a pattern in autistic children in which soft stool accumulates in the large intestine for many days until the body flushes everything out by means of explosive diarrhea. [8]

Two Key Concepts for Understanding Glyphosate’s Connection with Gut Dysfunction

The first key point is peristalsis. This is the normal rhythmic contraction of muscles in the digestive system that pushes food along the digestive tube that connects the mouth to the anus. Glyphosate interferes with normal muscle activity in the gut. It can slow it down to the point where partially digested food piles up in the large intestine for several days before there is a bowel movement.

The second key point is adequate levels of stomach acid. Hydrochloric acid must be produced in the stomach to breakdown protein into amino acids. When stomach acid is deficient, then proteins remain undigested, and the body is denied the amino acids it needs for cellular activity.

The Consequence of Impaired Gut Motility and Insufficient Stomach Acid

When sluggish peristalsis and inadequate stomach acid levels are present, the microbiome that should live in the large intestine can move up into the small intestine, which further prevents nutrient absorption.

This condition is called Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). This condition also prevents vitamin B12 from being absorbed in the small intestine. [7] Depression is often linked to low B12 levels. [15]

Low levels of stomach acid and sluggish peristalsis also create ideal conditions for the formation of biofilms [16, 17] throughout the gut. These biofilms provide a safe haven for toxic bacteria, harmful viruses, and many types of parasites. [7, 8]

Digestion before the Era of Glyphosate

Dr. Seneff stated:

When I was a kid you did not have digestive enzymes available at [health food stores]. It just was not something that was available because we didn’t need it back then.

Now people are taking all kinds of amino acids, which are proteins that have already been digested. People are taking digested proteins as supplements, because their bodies cannot digest proteins. They do this because their digestive systems are so shot by glyphosate that nothing is working any more. [7]

Glyphosate Substitutes for Glycine

Glycine is a molecule that the human body uses for producing stomach acid and for providing muscle contractions in the digestive tract. Glyphosate takes up residence in key places where glycine should be located. [7, 8]

Glyphosate is a chemically synthesized molecule that does not exist anywhere in nature. It is similar in some respects to glycine, which is needed to support healthy cellular activity in the human body, but functionally they are very different. [7]

When glyphosate substitutes itself for normal molecules in human cells, the chemical reactions that are needed to support vibrant health are broken. This begins a downward cascade of dysfunction that leads to many symptoms and illnesses. [7]

The Science behind Low Stomach Acid and Constipation

Dr. Seneff stated:

The parietal cells in the stomach are going to be hit hard by glyphosate. The parietal cells make and release hydrochloric acid. They also produce intrinsic factor, which is a protein that aids with vitamin B12 absorption.

Parietal cells need to acquire a lot of amino acids to build proteins. In doing so, they take up glyphosate because glyphosate is an amino acid. It is taken up by cells on amino acid transport systems. When parietal cells take up glyphosate, they start dying and are not able to release hydrochloric acid.

On top of that the chloride channel has an absolutely essential glycine residue right at the squeeze point – it’s like a funnel – where it lets the chloride through and it needs to not have negative charge because that would repel the chloride. It normally has a glycine right there, which is absolutely essential. But, when you replace the glycine at that point with a glyphosate molecule, you block the movement of chloride – it cannot come through the channel. [7]

Consequences of Low Stomach Acid

Dr. Seneff stated:

When the stomach is not sufficiently acidic, it produces reactions all down the line.

Glyphosate in parietal cells devastates their ability to produce stomach acid. So, now you have insufficient acid in the stomach which means you can’t breakdown proteins nearly as well, because there isn’t enough acid. Then you start getting food particles showing up in the feces.

This leads to SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). The stomach acid will normally kill the bacteria in the small intestine, but if it doesn’t then you will get SIBO. SIBO is also associated with autism.

Stomach acid can turn down the leaky gut situation. Because when you have those undigested proteins coming down into the lower gut, this opens up the gut barrier. This can bring on diarrhea to help flush everything out – to get rid of poison. The flushing of the gut is the mechanism that the body is using to try to get rid of that glyphosate.

But this opens up the gut barrier, which allows undigested proteins to get into the general circulation. This is when you really get in trouble because now you have the opportunity for autoimmune disease.

Your immune cells start chasing those proteins – it reacts to them – it produces antibodies and then through molecular mimicry the antibodies start attacking tissues of the body. This can lead to MS.

In terms of autism, I think it is basically an autoimmune disease – an autoimmune attack on the brain because of these wayward proteins that are causing the system to develop these antibodies. [7]

Science behind Impaired Muscles in the Gut and Constipation

Dr. Seneff stated:

There was a case study where a woman tried to kill herself by drinking a glyphosate formulation. She survived and they [doctors] observed what glyphosate did to her. They said it paralyzed her gut.

Muscle contraction is controlled by a protein called myosin. Myosin contains glycine residue.

If you replace that glycine with alanine, which has 1 extra methyl group … then you collapse [the muscle’s] ability to contract. … With that one small change, which is the smallest change you could make, a muscle loses 99% of its ability to contract.

[As an illustration,] If you just replace 2% of the myosin molecules with alanine – they have actually done these experiments in vitro – the whole muscle can only contract at 50% capacity.

If you put glyphosate in place of glycine in a muscle, it probably completely wrecks its activity – and it can’t contract at all. So, if you randomly fill some percentage of myosin molecules with bullets of glyphosate then this disables the muscle so it can’t contract as well. [7]

Repairing the Damage to Digestion Caused by Glyphosate

The information that is presented here about removing glyphosate from the human body and healing digestion is presented for informational purposes. It is not medical advice. Please consult a qualified healthcare professional when treating symptoms or illnesses.

The process of healing and repairing the damage caused by glyphosate involves two strategies:

  1. Using chlorine dioxide on a daily basis to destroy glyphosate and breakdown biofilms. This will allow parietal cells to heal and it will restore their ability to produce stomach acid. It will allow the gut wall to heal, and will remove glyphosate from myosin, which will improve muscle contraction in the digestive tract.
  2. Using hydrochloric acid (Betaine HCl) supplementation with digestive enzymes to improve digestion. This will allow proteins to be broken down into amino acids. It will kill the unhealthy bacteria that has taken up residence in the small intestine, and will eventually improve B12 absorption.

How does Chlorine Dioxide Function in the Body?

Chlorine dioxide has a remarkable ability to destroy glyphosate. It is a non-enzymatic solution to a very complex and difficult to treat form of toxicity. It does not chelate glyphosate (mobilize and bind it). Rather, it literally breaks it down into components that can actually become nutrients for the body. [8]

Dr. Seneff stated:

Back in 2005, the US government pointed out how wonderful chlorine dioxide is for use in food processing plants to keep away biofilms. It is very good at destroying biofilms and biofilms are where microbes and pathogens hang out and defeat the immune system because they are protected behind the biofilm wall. Chlorine dioxide breaks those down, which is really important.

Chlorine dioxide also does not react with organic molecules to produce destructive compounds, which is what chlorine by itself would do. Chlorine and chlorine dioxide are very different molecules.

Chlorine is incredibly important in the body. Its mechanisms of action are disrupted by glyphosate, which can result in chloride deficiency.

It is very difficult to get rid of glyphosate once it is in the body.

There are only a few microbes that can break it down enzymatically, such as Acetobacter in probiotics.

But chlorine dioxide can break it down non-enzymatically and it does this basically through an oxidation process. It is an oxidizing agent and that is how it works. It also kills bacteria.

Chlorine dioxide breaks down into basically oxygen and chloride. The oxygen from chlorine dioxide is an oxidizing agent. People talk about reactive oxygen species as being dangerous because there are reactions [in the body]. Reactive oxygen species have to react in order to do their job. I am not going to tell you to stop breathing because oxygen is toxic. You need to understand that these things that are reactive are good for you in small doses.

Your body knows how to handle chlorine dioxide, because hypochloride, which is what it turns into, is something that the macrophages (immune cells) produce to attack bacteria – it is the antibiotic agent that these immune cells release. These cells become impaired in this ability, I believe, because of the presence of glyphosate. So, they can’t kill pathogens, and the pathogens over grow in the gut, and you get gut dysbiosis.

Chlorine dioxide can enable immune cells to recover the ability to break down unhealthy bacteria in the gut. This is super important! [8]

Summary

We no longer need to feel like helpless victims when it comes to glyphosate exposure. The two-part strategy that was outlined here enables us to restore our health when glyphosate is tearing us down and setting us up for any number of chronic modern illnesses.

Chlorine dioxide (CD) has the incredible ability to breakdown glyphosate into components that the human body can actually use as nutrients to support healthy processes in the body.

This means we can take proactive steps on a daily basis to keep removing glyphosate from our bodies and improve our health.
