Learn Poetry Like Never Before!
This year we have been working on “The Project,” the publication of a set of books which will bind both our enrolled students, former learners, and larger community in a three-year cycle of readings which will synoptically encompass the humanities from the Stone Age ’til today. This is a massive undertaking not just for its scope, but also for the sober editorial hands it requires. How easily might this labor collapse into something gargantuan in size and myopic in interests.
By diligent application over decades, the reader will develop a vision and depth of the human experience scarcely to be found elsewhere. In time all school programs from our Conversation With… interviews to our Sense & Worth journal themes, from our Sappho Center events to our liturgical offerings – and especially our time in the classroom – will revolve around this mighty cycle. The Project will be the Institute’s greatest and most enduring contribution to pedagogical reform, the integrated humanities, and relational education.
The soul of The Project must necessarily be its month-long cursus of poetry. Ancient and Modern, East and West, again and again these 250 slivers of the soul will accompany each and every reading through our cycle (i.e., three poems, then a reading; three poems, then a reading, etc).
Mirabile dictu, the provisional cursus of poetry is now half complete and a PDF of the first week has been prepared.
Apocatastasis Institute’s is preparing “The Project,” a unified three-year cycle of readings which will be the heart of our humanities study. We have lately released part of our poetry cursus for free download. Near or far, you can join in our learning adventure!
