Red, purple, blue, green, yellow, black, white… it seems that just about every color is represented in the fungal kingdom. But have you ever asked yourself “Why?” Why are mushrooms so colorful? What’s the reasoning behind coloration within the fungal kingdom? Why are some mushrooms highly pigmented while others are seemingly drab? Fortunately, a new study has given us some answers based on trends spanning 40 years and over 3 million observations of mushrooms. Needless to say, the results of this study are quite fascinating!
